Carol Jensen

Director of Finance and Operations

Carol is a transplanted New Yorker who moved to Washington D.C. fifteen years ago because of her desire to use her skills to make a difference in the non-profit sector as Director of Financial Reporting and Operations at the American Diabetes Association. Carol’s strong financial background was developed in the private sector. A graduate of the State University of New York at Cortland, Carol began her career at the Marriott Hotel Corporation in the audit department and then spent several years as a senior analyst in client accounting at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising. Carol then worked as a finance leader at two start-up companies – US Concepts, Inc. and HyperMedia Solutions, LLC.

During Carol’s 15 years with the American Diabetes Association, she was responsible for reporting the charitable solicitations and registrations; tax and compliance (sales tax, 990, 990T, CGA compliance), monthly and annual financial statements and forecasts; weekly and monthly divisional support, as well as ensuring the integrity of the association’s general ledger by monitoring the timely reconciliations of bank accounts, daily uploads of CURE, and other third party uploads and reconciliations.

In addition, Carol was responsible for implementing key initiatives, including:
Negotiated new merchant rates and fees, saving the Association a minimum of $300,000 annually;
Streamlined the organization’s banking structure with improved monitoring of cash balances and investment activity;
Implemented processes and procedures to efficiently monitor and manage Inventory, which reduced year-end write offs;
Developed and implemented procedures with the Scientific & Medical Division for improved tracking and reporting of research grants; and
Implemented a summer intern program.
